Obituary of Joan Wahay

November 9, 1945 – May 28, 2023

It is with the greatest sadness that the family announces the passing of Joan Wahay after a courageous battle with cancer.

Left to mourn are her husband of 53 years John; daughter Leigh (Sean Christy), son Stephen (Laurie); granddaughters: Norah, Kadyn, Ruth and grandson Felix; sisters: Mary Kettle, Rev. Kathleen Knott, Margaret Zwicker, Edith Parsons and Jane Chaulk.

Predeceased by her parents Reginald and Violet Rose; brothers: Robert, Sam and George and a sister, Karen.

Joan was born in Port-Aux-Basques, Newfoundland where she spent a happy and fulfilling childhood. She moved to Halifax to work as a dental assistant and later became a secretary to a firm in Dartmouth. Joan was brought to Ottawa in 1986 because of John’s work. She then found work as assistant to the director of Centre Town Community Health Centre. She remained there until her retirement in 2005. She and John moved to Arnprior in 2001.

Special thanks to the oncology department of the Renfrew Hospital, Dr. Derek Jonker of Ottawa Cancer Centre and Bayshore nurses, Amanda and Jessica.

Final arrangements have been entrusted to the
