Bower was a great friend over our many years from the mid-1970s working together at Statistics Canada. I always remember, when asked to do a data run for outside clients, he always quietly "under promised and over delivered", without fail. We had a shared interest in classic cars and drove together to Hershey, Pennsylvania many times in autumns of the late 1990s and early 2000s for the annual AACA classic car meet, spending many days tromping through the flea vendor fields in rain, mud and shine and then taking in the show of thousands of classics on Saturdays. I loved Bower's wonderful dry sense of humour. He was a kind soul who never had a negative word for anyone. I know his passing will be a great loss for Ann and Ashley. My most heartfelt sympathies to his close family and friends.
