Obituary of Shannon Reid

Our beloved Shannon Jennifer Reid passed away Saturday, August 12th in her Mother, Susan’s, arms with her brother Adam, by her side.

She passed away both in peace and, heroically. Her harrowing journey with her illness over the last two years, when her disease recurred after being in remission, seemed arduous to us all, but her grace in the face of that illness, was incomparable.

The hospital staff at the Jewish General in Montreal loved her and marvelled at her resilience and we thank them for their care and all their efforts.

She was a fierce and graceful warrior and she knew it.

She was a loving mother to her two sons, Zachary and Oliver, the joys of her life and source of her strength; a wonderful and loyal daughter to her parents Susan and Brian Reid (pre-deceased); a loving sister to her brother Adam Reid; and a wonderful cousin, auntie, sister-in-law and niece in our family.

She was a passionate marketing director at Montelle Intimates in Montreal and enjoyed her work there for many years.

One of Shannon’s natural strengths was making friends. Prior to Montelle, she worked in Toronto, Jasper, Puerto Rico, and the UK and collected friends from all around the world. Her friends were her extended family and they provided enormous generosity and support to her.

The night before she passed, we were honoured to hear from many of these dear friends and family as they said their goodbyes over the phone. We could tell it affected Shannon deeply, and was incredibly moving for us to hear.

Shannon was an honest, naturally happy and fun person; a nature lover, a food and wine connoisseur, an adventurer and travel-lover who skied the alps, rode a camel in Egypt, and backpacked Europe on her own in her 20s.

She was a true spark of a human being, loved being alive and refused to quit.

A week ago, we were able to arrange a two-day pass from the hospital for her to travel outside the province to my Mom’s house on the Ottawa river, with her kids, something she really wanted to experience again. It was such a gift for her and our family. She was beaming with such gratitude and love for life after that weekend that we thought it would last much longer. Now that love for life is everlasting and lives through her friends and family. If you look, you will find her in nature.
