My deepest sympathy to your family on the passing of your mom. I had the honor of meeting your mom a couple of times over the years and what a wonderful, warm woman she was. Her legacy will continue to shine through her daughters, sons inlaws and grandchildren.

Evelyn Baker (always Mrs. Baker to me), was a wonderful mom to her 3 girls, Susan, Karen and Janet, when we all lived in Dorval and I remember many times enjoying her delicious and healthy lunches at the Baker's kitchen table.
When there was a fire in our house one winter, Evelyn was there, taking us in while the firemen put it out, and making me tea, which really helped to calm me down. Thanks to Evelyn I continue to enjoy my cups of tea.
Once the fire in our home was out, our family was left with only the clothes on our backs, so Evelyn organized all the neighbours to gather items to give us which we had lost in the fire, like: cutlery, pots and pans, blankets, sheets, clothes and so much more. We were so lucky to have Evelyn and Frank Baker and their family in our neighbourhood as they were always there to help.
Her daughter Susan and I taught brownies together, played guitars and went on many camping trips, and her daughter Karen and I enjoyed playing with and feeding their sled dogs.
I can still hear Evelyn's voice in my head talking to me. She will be greatly missed by so many and even more so by myself.
With love,
Cathy (Carter) Clendenning

I remember my Mormor as a loving and gentle lady, she always had kind words for me and all of her grandchildren. She encouraged us in many positive ways throughout our lives.
Growing up I took an interest in our family’s Norwegian heritage, and Mormor was always happy to teach and share with me our family ancestry. One of my favorite memories of her was when she and I would make Hjortebakkels (Norwegian doughnuts). I also loved to wear the Norwegian traditional costume, along with a Norwegian pewter brooch that was given to me by her. She gave me many little family keepsakes over the years that I’ve treasured, each one containing a hand written note from her inside, telling the significance of it. I feel grateful that she and Bestefar always made sure we knew our family tree and where we came from.
Even though we lived an entire country apart, I always felt close to her and Bestefar. The times we got to be together are cherished and make up at lot of my core memories. We shared many happy times. I fondly look back on each trip my family took back East to see our grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
I’m so glad that Riker, now 6 years old, got to meet and spend some time with his Bestemor. When Riker was 1 month old, he got to meet her and his Great Auntie Karen for the first time when they flew to Vancouver Island to visit. Then when Riker was 9 months old, my mom (Susan) and I took him to Dorval to visit her, which was special, as this was the last time we saw her when she still lived in her home of 50 years. Amazingly, Riker had even learned to crawl during that time and she was there to see it. Then for her last visit to the West Coast, she was able to fly accompanied by my mom to BC in May of 2023. All 4 generations spent Mother’s Day together, it was wonderful.
I will miss her dearly. She will always stay with me in my heart and mind.
Rest peacefully Mormor.
Love always,
Your Granddaughter

Our sincere condolences to the family on the loss of such a beloved woman. I grew up close to the family so I always called her Mormor as a kid and even into my adult years. She was always very kind to me and my family. I know she will be greatly missed.

Dear whole family
By this
We want to send you our sincere condolences.
We know Eveline about 50 years but there is one special memory we would like to share. She and her sister Ruth visited once Holland in a cruiseboat through the country. Of course we wanted to meet them while we live there. There was a rendez- vous in a special restaurant in an very antique town and we were all nervous if we would find each other!! So two astonished and relieved faces entered the restaurant . Yes thye made it! Afterwards we had a great trip along our biggest lake in Holland and we all enjoyed it. They both were about eigthy years old and we stopped by and visited an old- aunt of Jan Roger who was 100 years old.. later we dropped them in the middle of Amsterdam on their boat. It has been lovely.
And always wen we called each other brother Jan Roger and sister Rian we met Eveline during the call and felt this memory.
How beautiful it must have been for Eveline to be able to live her last years on earth with daughter Karen and husband Jan Roger. And during these years they even had sometimes four generations in the beautiful house near the lake. What a gift must that have been!
Dear Eveline have a great voyage into the future of your time at the other side of life and we wish you al the best
Thanks for having known you as a very lovably friendly open thankfull woman .
All the best for everybody with giving your thoughts and memories with Eveline a soft nice spot in your harts.
Lots of greetings from Holland
Rian and René

I was extremely fortunate to have stayed with my mother three times during the past year. First for her 90th birthday when I flew to Ottawa to surprise her, and spent a wonderful 3 weeks. Then last spring I came to White Lake to escort Mom back to our home on Vancouver Island for a stay of 6 weeks. She really enjoyed that! In September I arrived again to Karen and Jan’s home for a lengthy visit, and spent quality time with Mom. We shared stories and memories sitting outside while enjoying the sunshine and beautiful lake views. Our last day trip all together was to IKEA to browse and shop, followed by lunch at Cora’s, and finally to a specialty store that carried Norwegian goat cheese (Gjetost), where Mom bought up all they had in stock. It was such a lovely outing for us, as I returned to my B.C. home a few days later.
Even though we lived far apart, we texted daily and spoke often. I will be forever grateful to Karen and Jan for caring for our mother in their home for over 5 years. Mom was so very happy to be with her family. Rest in peace Mom ……........................ love you, Susan

I am so sorry to hear the sad news about your mother, Susan, Karen and Janet. Evelyn was such a good friend to my mother, both in their wonderful Dorval neighbourhood and through their many years in the UCW at Dorval Strathmore United Church. And my gosh - how much fun all those neighbours would have every Monday morning - laughing, chatting, and nibbling together, and then laughing and chatting some more! I know that your mother meant so much to you all. Please accept my deepest condolences.

My deepest sympathy to the Baker Family and to Evelyn’s friends. We were classmates of the girls and later, members of the Monday Morning Coffee Group, a great sisterhood of strong and caring women, Evelyn was a wonderful raconteur, and we looked forward to her hosting us, as she often had a Norwegian delicacy to share. I wish you ease in the days ahead, and know your love and care meant your mom lived a beautiful and long, full life.

Deepest condolences to my cousins Susan (Dan) Karen (Jan) and Janet and their families. As well as my mom Ruth Roberts ( Auntie Evie's) only sister.
Such wonderful memories growing up as we ( myself and my sisters ) were always included in many activities such as camping trips, canoeing and skiing. Auntie Evie always had 5 or 6 girls to look after. She will be missed terribly. I'm so very thankful for everything that she did for us.

I would like to send my condolences to everyone in Evelyn`s familily in Canada. I was so saddened by the news of her passing away. I think Evelyn has had a long and good life- she has taken care of so many of us over the years. It was very good to know that the family took great care of her, especially during her latest years when she needed daily, practical support the most.
I live in Bergen, Norway and I am the daughter of Jean Fredrik Monclair- Evelyn`s cousin. From my childhood I remember when the family from Canada came to visit us. It was quite exotic to meet relatives who lived "over there" and spoke another language (English). We found out that even though we lived far apart,, our lives were lived in quite the similar way. And Evelyn and Ruth spoke Norwegian- it was so easy to get "connected" with them.
In the mid-nineties I visited Evelyn and her sister Ruth and and all of their daughters across Canada. I have so many fond memories of Evelyn - and everyone else.whom I met up with. Evelyn opened her home to me and my friend and gave us the "all inclucive" service- including guiding in Montreol.
Every Christmas ...but the latest- I have received handwritten Christmas cards from Evelyn with updates on life and health and family..these cards have been treasured and important for me .
Warm thoughts to everyone who loved and misses Evelyn.

Evelyn sat behind me every Sunday at Dorval Strathmore United Church with her old friends. I was the new one from Dorval United.
They all welcomed me and I got to know and love those women. Evelyn was sorely missed when she moved away but she would come back to Dorval just to see us which we all celebrated. Condolences to her loving family. She will be missed.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of my sister Evelyn.
I'd like to give my condolences to Evelyn's, daughters and their husbands, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren.
My sister Evelyn and I were very close growing up. We raised our kids and followed our Norwegian traditions and these traditions are continuing on. All our kids families are close even though some live miles apart.
Evelyn and I always kept in touch throughout the years and as we grew older called everyday. I will miss those calls very much. I miss her dearly.

I was saddened today to learn about Evelyn’s passing. My memories of Evelyn go back many years She and Frank were neighbours of my late parents. As a child, I remember my mother calling my brother and i to watch Frank carry Evelyn carry. Evelyn over the threshold. To the older neighbours she was known as “the bride”. I babysat her girls and in years to come they babysat my girls.
As a young couple, we bought a house facing the Bakers. We also attended the same church as Evelyn where we were members of United Church Women together. Evelyn was loved by everyone for her kindness and willingness to help in all our charitable work.
After moving to White Lake, she remembered her Dorval friends and would drop by to say hi to us. We will always remember Evelyn. God bless her.

Evelyn will be SO missed by everyone here in Dorval. She was the matriarch of this little community here. A kind and compassionate woman who helped everyone she could. She started off as a neighbor to me - and then slid into a treasured friend for decades. Kevin, my girls and I treasure her memory and will dearly miss her smiling face.
