My deepest sympathies and support, as well as prayers for comfort and Ian's salvation in Heaven... By all accounts, this description tells of a man of tremendous care and value, holding others in his heart and serving God through living his best life. As a blessed member of the L'Arche family, I can speak first-hand of the warm and infinitely special nature of the L'Arche community, and it is evident Ian was a beacon for all to admire! God bless and rest in peace, Ian!

Dear Jane and Dale and family
My deepest sympathies on the loss of Ian. He was the Patriarch of L'Arche Arnprior and will be much missed. Ian always had an interest in what the farm was producing and would check in with me as to what crops were being grown. He liked to visit the farm and I particularly remember that he loved the sweet corn.
I am so sorry that I missed the wake and funeral. I had other obligations...
Blessings Liz Campbell

I am Wayne Skitch’s sister and I remember Ian well from my visits to L’Arche Frontenac in the 1970s. Wayne and Ian were great buddies working together “out on the farm” (and Ian made sure I knew that he had a sister too!). Those were wonderful halcyon days for both of them living on the land in the loving orbit of Brian and Mary Lou’s happy family.
Ian was definitely a memorable lovable man and I send my condolences to all who loved him.

Dear Jane, Dale and family and our friends with L'Arche Arnprior: Please know we are thinking of you all as you mourn the loss of dear Ian. A quick story that still brings a smile to my face: I picked up Ian in my tractor trailer in Arnprior to take him for a ride to Ottawa to make a delivery. My dear mother of 85 (at the time) was living in Ottawa so I arranged with her to meet up with us at my delivery point in downtown Ottawa so we could go out together for lunch. When we got to our delivery we had a bit of time to wait so I asked Ian to keep an eye on things while I jumped into my sleeper bunk to take a quick nap. I was napping away when all of a sudden I hear Ian banging at the window and yelling loudly at someone to "go away, go away, we have nothing to give you". I asked Ian, "What's going on?" Ian says, "Oh some old bag lady is knocking on the truck door looking for a hand out". The "old bag lady" was my dear old mother! Oh we all had a great laugh! Ian was always "colourful" and a great guy. Holding you all in our prayers. Cathy, Dave (van Schaik) and family

I met Ian at the Arnprior Villa. He was a good friend to my parents with usually a smile for us when we went to visit. I remember he loved his Montreal Canadiens. I saw him at Mama Rosas a few times after. RIP Ian. My sympathy to his family

The world has lost a very special man.
Ian appreciated everything that was done for him whether it was visits from his family or simply rolling him outside to sit in the sun by the 'whiskey barrel' water feature. Even though he spent the last years of his life at Groves Park Lodge, he never lost sight of his dreams. Inevitably, his excitement elevated as spring moved into summer with anticipation of attending the Renfrew Fair. With renovations being planned at GPL, Ian would wait patiently to meet and speak with the owner of the home, and being the gentleman he was, he would always wear a tie to signify his respect for Mr. H. Ian was focused on opening his Café as part of the renovations. He had great plans for how it would look and what he would serve. His excitement was palpable. He had a dream!
As a former Montrealer, Ian loved to discuss the Montreal Canadiens with me and was very proud of his hockey sweater autographed by goaltender Carey Price.
Ian loved to share his stories, talk about his family, and his love for them. I'm glad I had the opportunity to get to know Ian and was privy to his thoughts and dreams. Hopefully somewhere in the Great Beyond, there will be endless summer fairs and the greatest celestial café run by a happy soul wearing a Montreal Canadiens toque.
Rest in Peace dear Ian.

So sorry to hear about Ian. He was an amazing character and brought energy to the room. He had no fear, could talk to anyone. He was a great force. I will miss him and his British accent and the way he made people feel special. He knew how to touch your heart ❤️ Bless you Ian.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Ian. When my father was at the Villa....he and Ian were good friends......they shared the odd "non-alcoholic".....(unbeknownst to either of them).....beer together. I was surprised to read in his obituary that he loved Fairs. I took him one year to the Carp Fair and took wonderful photos. I had printed some and gave them to Ian....but I cannot locate them now. I would have loved to have posted them.
I am sorry that after dad left the Villa and passed away, that I did not keep up with Ian. Whenever I did see him out and about....he had the biggest grin for me. He was a wonderful human being who made the Town of Arnprior and indeed the world a better place. The world needs more "Ian's". May he rest in peace.
