Obituary of Bob Dechert
In Loving Memory of Robert Kenneth Dechert
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Kenneth Dechert, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Robert, fondly known as Bob, Dad, and Papa, died peacefully at Victoria Manor on October 16, 2024, at 89, with his family by his side.
Robert was a professional agrologist (P. Ag) with the Ontario Institute of Agrologists and an accredited agricultural appraiser. He had a distinguished career of over 30 years with Farm Credit Corporation.
His leadership and dedication were also evident in his roles as Director and President of the Arnprior Chapter of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA), where he made significant contributions to the local agricultural community. He was also an active member of the Guelph Lions Club and the Lindsay Probus Club, where he forged many lasting friendships. In his youth, Robert was the Drum Major of the renowned Preston Scout House Band, performing in front of many large audiences throughout Canada and the U.S.
In addition to his professional responsibilities and achievements, Robert was a part-time farmer who enjoyed cash cropping, raising livestock, woodworking, and sharing a passion for the Ottawa Senators with his loving wife Laurene of 59 years. He was a proud father to Mark (Inge), Jane (Rod), and Kelly (John), a cherished papa to Brittney (Colin), Brooke (Clyde), Cassidy, and Egan, and a great grandpa to Mia. His warmth, wisdom, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
He is predeceased by his parents, Milton and Amy Dechert of Galt, Ontario, and his sister, Joyce (Bruce) Witmer of Cambridge. He is survived by his family and many dear friends, who will remember him for his unwavering support, genuine kindness, and dedication to those he loved.
We invite you to celebrate Robert’s life at the Lindsay Golf and Country Club, 282 Lindsay Street South, Lindsay, Ontario, on Saturday, November 16th, 2024, between 12 and 3 p.m. We kindly ask those planning to attend Robert’s Celebration of Life to RSVP by October 25, 2024, to Kelly.susan@hotmail.com so we can accommodate everyone.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. This celebration is an opportunity to honor his memory and positive impact.
We are deeply grateful to the staff at Victoria Manor for their exceptional care and support. They went above and beyond to understand and appreciate our father and husband for who he still was. Their dedication and compassion made a significant difference in his life—special thanks to Sherry Hill for your support and care over several years.
Robert's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
