Mr Stewart was my favourite teacher. He taught me great life lessons at an impressionable age in Grade 5. I would bring my son to his farm on Halloween when he was just a young a lad. The only teacher my son has met. RIP Mr. Stewart

Barrie and I go back a long way. High school, Teacher's College, Carleton U, but probably the most notable time spent together was the infamous Mountain Club at Mt. St Patrick. The years there could be described as men being boys. We worked hard, played hard, and told stores, and Barrie was a champion at that. He also was our treasurer and being a good Scot, he kept us under financial control. The picture in his obituary was essence of Barrie. Always smiling , but that sly grin that, was usually followed with some funny comment . When Barrie was around there was always laughter, and late nights talks with adult beverages. Brenda, I know you will miss him terribly, but will find comfort in the great life you had together and the memories you made.

I was so blessed to have Mr. Stewart teach me for 2 years at Fitzroy Centennial. He will always be one of the most inspiring and impactful people in my life. He believed in me as a young student, and it changed the entire course of my education and life. He still crosses my mind often, and I will remain grateful always for how he set me on a new and exciting path! I'm sad to learn of his passing, and send my most heartfelt condolences.

Brenda, Earl and I just loved your Barrie. I was on staff with Barrie at Fitzroy Centennial and loved to hear his stories, his fun filled memories and love of life. He was a wonderful teacher and the kids loved him He was our daughter's favourite teacher
I partied more than once at after school events with Barrie and staff and he always had us laughing. Earl and our son Jason did work for Barrie at the farm. We met over the years and he always asked how our kids were. He was a really good friend.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Brenda.

I am going further back than Fitzroy …. Barrie was in Kinburn, and was an amazing exemple figure to my boys, Rob and Jeff Dowd. He took the time to get to know all the kids, their strength , their weakness, before anything else… and that is what made him a great teacher, probably the best ever at Kinburn Centennial.
RIP Mr. Stewart

I have many fond memories of Barry whose easy sense of humor was always very active. I taught intermediate school with him and always enjoyed talking with him - a very kind and considerate person. He always emailed me a supply of jokes which were well chosen and highly entertaining. A true gentleman - he will be sorely missed by many. We will miss him at our monthly get togethers.

I was saddened to hear of Barrie’s passing. Barrie was one of my mentors when I first started teaching at Greenbank Middle School. We socialized on Fridays and travelled together as well. Barrie drove the cleanest damn car inside and out. Although I have not seen Barrie in the past number of years, I have always considered him a dear friend. Rest in peace.

I worked with Barrie at Greenbank Middle School in Nepean and had the pleasure of watching him work with students who came to not only respect him but admire what he stood for as someone to respect. My fondest memory of Barrie concerns an interview he had with one parent. This individual arrived, set to take on the world and used a number of expletives in the first minute or two of the interview. Barrie sat quietly until the man had finished and then calmly said… ‘Sir, that is the first time ever that I have heard someone use their entire vocabulary in one sentence.’ From that point on, Barrie owned the interview.
