Obituary of Alfonso Sartarelli

Alfonso Sartarelli died peacefully at the age of 82 in Almonte, Ontario on Thursday, May 24, 2018. He was born in Rosora, Italy on October 22, 1935 to Anna Vitali and Gustavo Sartarelli. From a young age Alfonso was destined for adventure, also described by the title of his late wife Jutta Heller-Sartarelli memoirs “Never a dull moment with Alfonso Sartarelli”. As a young Italian he started his adventure as a Sergeant in the French Foreign Legion and travelled the world while teaching himself multiple languages. For Alfonso, language and travel were irreplaceable gifts that he has passed down to his family. Alfonso and Jutta immigrated to Canada in 1967 in the pursuit of a dream to raise their family surrounded by the beautiful nature of this country. With a strong and honest work ethic, he managed to do so through a series of efforts during his first years in Canada. From hotel and restaurant owner to accountant to airline attendant he eventually discovered that his true love was developed in Italy. During his early years there, he had the opportunity to work on movie sets, learning the art of mold making and reproducing artistic backgrounds and sets for that industry. He also developed an appreciation for the everlasting beauty that was found in renaissance art and architectural décor that surrounded him back home. In 1980, he founded Alfonso da Rosora Garden Ornaments (Statue Canada), as a means to fulfill his passion in creating beauty. His artistic creations can be seen throughout the City of Ottawa and surrounding areas. From cement fountains, balustrades, columns, statues, lions, and other creations, he leaves a piece of his legacy scattered for us to remember and enjoy. He is survived by his sister Luisa Fantato; daughter Elke Kasanda (Paul); son Helmut Sartarelli (Caroline) and his grandchildren Eva, Mila, Thomas, Emmett and Amelia. He will be missed but not forgotten. His legacy will live within us all. Family and friends were invited to pay their respects during visitation at the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior on Saturday morning, June 2 from 9 a.m. until 10:15. A Funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Braeside at 11 o’clock. Private interment St. Michael’s Parish Cemetery, Corkery. .
