My condolences to the entire Dowd family. I met Jake a year ago when I commenced dog therapy visiting with Rudy at the Grove which included the folks at the day program. Jake and "Rudy" became fast friends, often with Jake seeking us out as soon as he saw we were in the building, It was very obvious why this special young man was a crowd favourite. May your memories sustain you as you deal with this loss. RIP buddy.

Dear Jane and Stephen, Kyle and Kerstin,
I have no words. “I’m sorry for your loss” seems so inadequate. I’d love for you to know that my best memory of Jake is of when I came to your house here in Peterborough and Jake took my hand in his to say hello. My hand disappeared in his but he held my hand so gently, like it was fragile. His gentleness touched my heart. Jane, my heart is broken. I have no words .... no words. Sending much love. ~ Linda Viscardis

We could all learn from Jake as he saw the beauty and pleasure in little things in life and I think that's why he had such a positive attitude. He will be missed, but I know I'll think of him often and remember how speaking with him could put a smile on my face even during the worst days. Jake was the kind of person that we all should strive to be. The world would be a much better place if we were!

My thoughts are with Steve, Jane, Kyle and family during these tough times.
I had the privilege of hanging out with Jake once/twice a week while we both attended Arnprior District High School. These hang outs included Pizza Pizza/Super Mario World/A&W Root Beer parties and were not limited to creating word puzzles online. I learned quite a bit about bird species, his trips to Bulk Barn and Michael's. I know that Jake touched my life as well as many others in the town of Arnprior (as well as Peterborough and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia). As sad as it is that he went so soon, you created a huge-hearted, friendly young man!
