I found out about Larry's passing just recently and I am very sorry for the loss of one of the kinder people I knew as teenager growing up on Harry St in Renfrew Ont. I was asked to babysit those three little boys on a regular basis who by the way always went to bed on time without a problem. I remember one time after sitting with the kids for about 3 hrs which was just down the street Larry said I do not have the proper amount to give you for the evening so I will get it to you tomorrow. The next day I received an envelope with $5.00 in it. I immediately walked over and said thank you but it is too much. He kindly said "you earned it" Back then we earned 25-50 cents per hour. I never forgot that. My thoughts are with you Norma Michael Tim and Steven

Larry was a very kind man. I had a dream a recent morn that welcomed me to a new day. Within a field though the trees I could see Larry with his welcoming smile waving at me. In the background stood a cabin. Although I did tear up somewhat, I awoke with the feeling that he had built that cabin for all, in order to provide shelter and for comforting companionship.

Growing up on Harry St. in Renfrew with Michael and Tim and my sister Lisa growing up with Steve, I have some great memories of skating on the back yard rink that Larry made for his boys. Michael and I would bump heads at least once a summer playing hide and go seek at the Calnan house and we would have matching goose eggs on our heads for a time. Larry was a calm soul and I don't think I ever saw him angry. We grew up playing super heroes on the front lawn, or kick the can, or hide and seek. My sympathies go out to Norma, Mike, Tim and Steve. I hope you all have great memories to share.

I’ll truly miss Larry… a better father in law, I couldn’t have had. Always kind and welcoming, and I could always count on him for some of that patented Calnan teasing! :)
A loving Grandfather to Jamie, and a great role model for us all.
Thank you for being you. We love you and miss you, Larry / Papa

It’s with deep sadness that we send our condolences to the Calnan family. Our two families have been connected for so many years when we all spent summers at our cottages on Mazinaw Lake. Larry was kind and was very nice with my children, Carol and Logan. Thank you, Larry and Norma, for your kindness and for your love and support for my sister and niece, Samantha and Jamie. It has meant so much to us. Much love, Karen, Carol and Logan Sexsmith

It is very refreshing to see the posts made by others who knew my Dad. I find it comforting, and not surprising, to see that he treated people with the kindness, and positivity that I had always been a recipient of. I never knew a better man, and I don't expect I ever will. Though I have stumbled many times, my Dad was always there to lift me high, never to give up. Through the warmth of his heartbeat and inner-self, I have been inspired to do better within my capabilities. I realize I will never exceed the height of the mountain upon which he has climbed, as to me, there is no peak which would rise taller. My aim is to climb as high as I can so I can still grasp upon his shirt-tail and try to hold on. I feel his steadying hand upon my shoulder, and the unending grasp that he has upon my soul. I know he is back at home in Heaven, because my Dad was truly Heaven-sent to me. Thank-you for what I have seen written about my Dad, it surely treats me well, Tim

Condolences to Aunt Norma, and cousins: Mike, Tim And Steve.(& Jamie). Uncle Lorne made things awesome. I loved his stories about the "Indians in the woods" at the cottage. Being near Uncle Lorne everything seemed like it would be OK. I remember his kind and gentle spirit. We will miss him. His spirit remains in our hearts forever. Love to all of you. Colleen

Norma and family, My sincerest condolences.
Larry was one of the finest policemen and human beings I ever met. Always calm and even tempered and treated people with respect regardless of the situation.
There was nothing I enjoyed more than our chats at different meetings and get togethers. He will be missed.

Larry was my Corporal was I was a newly appointed cadet in Renfrew. He turned out to be a great supervisor, friend and father figure to me. He was an all around great man who will be missed. He bailed me out of a lot of situations and I’m thankful for that. He helped everyone that was stationed at Renfrew detachment in one way or another and I was proud to work with him. My sincerest condolences to the family ❤️ RIP Larry.

Larry, it has been a long time. We first met in 1971 when I arrived at the OPP Detachment in Renfrew, many years of work, play, and good & bad times, mostly great memories. When You left Renfrew, most of us lost touch with You and your family. Wow!! 91 years almost a century of being a good guy here on earth. R.I.P. Larry. Oh, say hi to Garnet Heaslip, Charlie Agate, and Sherwood Cavanaugh just a few you will meet having gone before. God Bless.
