I'm very grateful to have had Michael as a friend for almost three decades. We shared good times and laughs after work downtown, on vacation in Mexico, and on fishing trips to White Lake and Northern Ontario. I'm fortunate to have so many memories to carry with me and cherish the rest of my days. Michael faced his destiny with courage and dignity. I hope and believe he has gone to a better place. I think of him everyday and will miss him always. This photo is from a bike rike along the Toronto Waterfront in 2018. This is the Michael I remember.

So very sad to have just been made aware of Michael's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Michael and he is someone who made an impact in the hearts and minds of many. A gifted, kind and thoughtful man and friend to so many.

I worked with Michael at TD and remember him as a man of many faces - a prankster who would secretly hide cutlery in my purse in restaurants; a musician who composed from the heart; a son/brother who loved his family; a lover of good clothes but most of all, he was a dreamer.
Sweet dreamin dear Michael.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure Michael will now have some grand fishing adventures with Uncle Lorne and will be playing some guitar for Aunt Pansy. My mom often talked about Michael being the big brother she never had. I'm sure they will have a few drinks and laughs together. Rest in peace Michael. ❤

Meet you on the other side my friend.
When I joined the TD Bank head office at the mature age of 23 posted to the marketing department I thought I was going to be a “master of the universe”. I came crashing back to earth quickly after writing my fourth draft of the “TD complaint handling procedures” manual. What had I gotten myself into and would this then be my life? A life of bureaucratic bungling and manual writing (Anyone who knows Michael would know he’d call it ‘manual manipulation’) My boss even told me I had to make a training video of how to handle a complaint… That’s how I met Michael. I make the call and a day later this Hollywood looking dude shows up in my cubbyhole… I was very relieved to see not everyone at TD dressed like a Borg drone. After the complaints video went platinum, Michael and I went on to produce many more hits such as, Customer Service (a.k.a. “How to be nice to people or at least appear to be so”) and The TD $5 Service Guarantee (wait in line longer than 5 minutes and we pay you $5). Michael even made me a star playing leading roles in many of these blockbusters - just like Jerry Sienfield but without the laughs or the millions.
Through this Michael and I became fast friends. Being a Valley Boy, Michael was the only person I met in T.O. that knew White Lake where we have a family cottage. We knew all the same haunts in the ‘prior. Michael’s sense of humour was subversive and witty. His music is among the only country music I like (the other artist being Johny Cash but Michael has the edge). Michael’s was the only indie album I ever paid cash for. I am listening to it now with a tear in my eye. Michael was a kind, generous, funny but most of all interesting person.
We lost touch when I got posted to Australia but in a way we stayed close through his music. I was shocked and terribly saddened to hear this news but as Michael would be the first to say, we all gotta cross over someday.. And we will meet someday on the other side. Till then, be at peace my Director.
PS - for an example of his wicked subversiveness listen to his track Robbing Robin’s Bank

I have many fond memories of Michael in our very young years. He and Tommy Goudie, the son of Aunt Norah and Uncle Hank used to play together. Michael would come up to Ottawa with Uncle Lorne and Aunt Pansy and we would also be visiting Aunt Norah.
I always kept up to date on all his music and he would come to all the family gatherings in Arnprior. I know he was a kind soul and very spiritual from our conversations.
He will be met at the pearly gates by all his loved ones waiting for him. God speed.
His cousin, Caroll

Condolences Bette and family. I'm really going to miss Michael. I always enjoyed meeting up with him when I was in Toronto and all of the songs stories and bits of wisdom he'd share. We had some deep conversations over these past few months and they will always remain with me. A few months back, he seemed fascinated by a post I made on Facebook, showing how the Laderoutes are related to St. André Bessett. The last few times we talked, he said that he had been praying to him. I'd like to think that St. André was one of the people waiting to welcome him into heaven.
Rest in peace, Primo.

My deepest heartfelt condolences to Bette and the family on the loss of Michael. He was my best friend for 30 years and pulled me through many fires and tough times. Michael taught me the finer things in life. How to shoot pool, the proper way to cook chilli, the taste of good bourbon and tequila, Coronation Street and how to be a kinder and gentler man. He never judged anything I did or said but was always there when I needed a guiding hand. Rest well my dear sweet friend as your spirit travels. May your strings always be in tune and your voice ring strong. I’ll find you in a cantina on the other side ‘where the sun peels the paint, the seat covers fade and the water moccasin dies.’

Mike was a dear friend and my next door neighbour for many many years. I will never forget how positive he always was, no matter what life threw his way. He was really one of a kind. I’ll miss hearing him play his guitar as I walk through the building hallway. I can’t believe he is no longer with us. I know your spirit still lives on, and I hope you’re having a cerveza for us all in Mexico. Forever remembered and greatly missed. Pensando tu siempre Mike.

My deepest condolences to you Bette and your nieces on Michael's passing. He was a great and generous friend. I was fortunate enough to visit him a couple of times at his second home in Mexico. I got to go deep-sea fishing with him and it was an experience I'll never forget. I don't think he ever caught that marlin he was looking for, but we did okay on the ocean that day. Of course most of our time was spent enjoying the local culture and consuming all the cervazas and teek in town. By the third day we created a rule, no alcohol before 2 pm. We broke it on day four.
He is man who has many friends from Arnprior and all the way down the road to Melaque, Mexico. I will miss him deeply. Adios amigo.
