I was saddened to just hear about Marvin's passing but rejoice to know that it was his graduation as well! All glory to God who loves us and has sent His Son Yeshua to pay the price for our sins and redeem us from the power of the grave. Hallelu Yah! Marvin we only met each other a few times, but I look forward to seeing you again in the Kingdom of God.
My sincere condolences to all the family, may Abba Father grant you shalom and comfort by the Holy Spirit in your time of loss, may He lift you up and draw you closer to Him. Amen

Marvin, your warmth, that gleam of mischief in your eye, your generous servant leadership will be missed. We’re grateful for the gift of your presence and your heartfelt words of inspiration. Your words to us concerning your diagnosis of cancer were so poignant: (to paraphrase) “I have seen God do many miracles in my life, so I know he can heal me. But I accept whatever His will is…I truly do”. Your confident assurance of God’s goodness, faithfulness and wisdom will stay with us.

Marvin, a dear brother in our Lord and saviour. You definitely influenced our lives and brought ‘one new main’ in a fresh way to WOCC. We will miss you; your compassion for people, you love of Yeshua, your passion in prayer. One day we will see you again. Thank you for being a gift to WOCC.

Love you Marvin! See you on the other side. ;) Your gain is definitely our loss. You're leaving a real gap in the community and we'll think of you often. Having said that, Marvin's Cafe lives on! We will do our feeble best to honour your legacy of hospitality and fire. <3
I only met Marvin back on Easter Weekend when I first came to church. He was so cute and sweet with his little hat and his suspenders! When he found out I couldn't eat gluten, it became his personal mission to stock up on gluten free snacks. The next few times I came to church, he had special gf desserts hidden in the fridge for me, far superior to the other desserts, then later it became a stash of snacks in his office that I was welcome to sneak into. This kind and generous, extremely attentive care did a lot to make me feel welcomed and embraced. As a coffee addict, I also greatly appreciated the nonstop supply waiting for us all by the fire each Sunday.
Marvin also told amazing stories. Sometimes the same story repeatedly, but amazing nonetheless. He loved telling me about his wife, and how the Lord guided her straight into his arms and how he cared for her after she suffered the loss of a loved one. He also insisted the Lord took her exactly when He intended to. Marvin believed he ended up where he was meant to be, when he was meant to be there after her passing. He believed his new mission was important enough to the Lord to be worth the personal price he paid. I always questioned whether he could possibly believe this right down to his marrow, to me it seemed too painful, but I think Marvin understood that pain can be significant yet still serve a greater purpose. He believed Romans 8:28.
Marvin was also very cheeky, and a bit sneaky. Every birthday card he signed: "Roses are red, violets are blue-ish, if it wasn't for Jesus, you wouldn't be Jewish!" I'm not sure how everyone received that, hahaha, I imagine there were at least a couple raised eyebrows. ^_^ I say he was sneaky because he liked to startle us with his flammable wallet and bible. He also had a terrible habit, in my early days at WOCC, of getting deep and meaningful, intense conversations going between me and himself and a certain male church member who had eyes for me. . .then Marvin would abruptly excuse himself and ditch me there, TRAPPED!!! That cheeky trickster! I knew full well he was doing it on purpose. I was trying to avoid such males and it wasn't any secret. (The male in question, some months later, confessed his thoughts on the subject: "Thank you Marvin, my brother!")
His quiet, strained sermon in the months preceding his passing was one of the best sermons I'd ever heard. It was absolutely packed with wisdom. I'm told if I can get a copy of his book, I'll be able to take it in again and absorb more.
My last memory of Marvin was visiting him at his house, after I finally bit the bullet and passed my road test. Marvin's cheeky response: "Great, another woman on the road." There was some remark in the room sometime later about me being a little bit on the combative side. Though he was extremely sick and weakened from the cancer, his response did not disappoint: "Of course, she's a woman." Only someone who loves me gets away with those remarks! ;)
Marvin, you will be greatly missed. We'll catch up with you later! XOXOXO!

On the loss of a dear friend and member of the West Ottawa Community Church.
My memories of Marvin cover only nine months, but they will have a lifetime impact on me. I came to West Ottawa Community Church on Easter Sunday, 2021. I observed from the beginning that there was this dear man that was always making sure the coffee pots were full and everyone’s needs were addressed. Pastor Chuck had told me that the church included a Messianic Jewish Rabbi. I immediately made the connection. Marvin was looking after his flock. What was very special about this for me was that I grew up in a 95% Jewish neighborhood in Toronto and all my best friends with a couple of exceptions were Jewish. I have often credited my acceptance by this large majority as a factor in my scholastic success. Because I was part of a highly intelligent and competitive group, I had to keep my nose to the grindstone.
I found a couple of opportunities to sit down with Marvin and tell him my story—the lost Christian who still wasn’t sure he was not Jewish too. Over the months, we did not chat much further, Marvin was always busy with one chore or another. He was the ultimate shepherd caring for his flock.
There were some Sundays when Marvin stepped up to speak I always felt fulfilled by his words. He had a deep sense of our/my needs.
I was heartbroken when I learned that Marvin had liver cancer. He continued on with resolve and courage. However, one could see that he was losing strength. On his last Sunday at church, he was very frail, but he addressed the congregation. it was a beautiful litany of prayers and blessings that told us all he knew where this would end, and he was ready.
It was my honour and a privilege to have known Marvin. In some ways, Marvin has helped me find my way back to the path of Prayer and Jesus Christ.

Amazing Man of God and His family,
I had the wonderful honour and privilege of being part of the Shekinah congregation and knowing Marvin since late 2020 after coming to the new birth of the Holy Spirit in Christ Jesus. Marvin was a stand out awesome and loving and relatable teacher, shepard, and relatable friend with a true heart for being a family in the House of the Lord. He touched my heart and mentored in my life in so many ways in such a short time and in the fullness of learning the history of the Bible, Yeshua and in the life of the Holy Spirit and relating to God as a good good Father. He is so missed yet there is joy in knowing he is present now with those who had transitioned before him and the Lord who meant everything in everything to him. Thank-you Marvin, praise you Lord and blessings of your life and peace to all in abundance!!! <3 Mary

Marvin a brother that lived what he preached . He was there to listen and always had a joke or quip to bring a smile. He shared all his trials as well as his victories and was not afraid to be different, coloured lights around his neck and head, fire breathing Bible, cowboy hat , african dress. He was willing to be whatever would make people receptive to the gospel of his Lord and messiah Yeshuah. He organized the lunches made coffee , popcorn and hotdogs for all . Mr. Hospitality , a true brother in Christ. Till we meet again, Shalom!! Marvin.

Sweet Marvin very clearly was on the path the Lord gave him. Constantly serving others and serving the Lord. I will miss his sense of humour and his present and genuine heart and of course his fiery bible! Always receiving with grace a pat on the shoulder or head or a big hug. He was grateful to the end of his time with us as I am grateful for him.

Apostle Shaul (Paul) wrote to Timothy; "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." (2 Timothy 4:7-8). This statement applies to Marvin too. He loved his LORD with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength.
He led Shekinah Messianic congregation with much grace and love that emanate from the LORD. He lived it out in his life and inspired us to do the same; to love one another.
Good-bye Marvin, for now. We love you and miss you very much. Our blessed hope is; 'We will see you again.'

I'll always remember walking into the Church early Sunday mornings to hear Marvin praying in the Spirit as loud as he could. Also, we just loved one another as brothers. This I'll remember well. I miss you my Jewish brother from a different mother.

How can it be that you are gone so soon Marvin? It is just like you, who quietly comes in, to quietly go out. Gentle, kind, generous and real. Humble, willing, caring and a listener, you were a gift to all. We were so blessed to have you with us when we visited a friend's cottage in late summer, and to see how much you enjoyed yourself just being in nature. I think you knew it might be your last time. And now finally, the joy of your life, to be with your Saviour. That knowledge is what we will dwell on when we begin to miss you again.

I met Marvin around 2019, as he came to Church in Aylmer-Gatineau (Quebec) visiting a friend.
We enjoyed a sweet fellowship, and when I had my guitar, we relished in singing messianic music, mainly from Lamb's band, that we both knew.
He will be remembered as a man of deep faith. When I visited him in Arnprior, a few weeks before his passing away, he quoted me Psalm 118, a psalm sung by Jesus before his death (Matth. 26:30; Mk 14:26): : "I shall not die, but live,
And declare the works of the Lord." (Ps 119:17)
My wife Carole and I send our sympathies to his parents and loved ones and his Church.

A great friend for over 40 years. We were in Printing together and worked in church together and Marvin was as solid as a brother could be. His humor was as contagious as his laugh! He preached with passion and walked with the Lord in a special unpretentious way! He was always quick with a joke. Once Marvin and my brother and I were walking down the street and my brother said to Marvin. "Looks like Jerry has gained weight and you have loss some weight!" Without skipping a beat, Marvin said: "He must increase, and I must decrease!". That was Marv! Till will sit together at the marriage feast! Shalom!
