I was introduced to Lance by my friend Kathy Weigand. He trained both of Kathy's beautiful horses for her. I was her Dressage friend and Lamce loved to tease me about that. However it turns out we both shared alot of similar views on how to train amd ride horses. He always made me feel welcome and always encouraged me and helped me when I showed Kathy's beloved horse Denny (G.A. Riverdance). Lance was the most generous horseman who simply loved horses amd their owners. I will miss him and his humour, kindness, and abundant horse knowledge. Such a loss to his family and the horse community. RIP my friend. I will miss you.

Hard to find words on a day like this...
Lee grew up around Lantz as a kid. The McLaren's are like family.
Lantz worked for Lee's dad Ellard Bandy at Marlandy Stables back in the day.
Lee remembers looking up to Lantz as an older brother. So many memories...
Loss is hard,

Heartfelt condolences to Deb, Josh, Tyler, Sadie, William, Gary & family. Lantz was such a wonderful man, who loved you all so much. I will always remember Lantz as a good friend who had the most generous of spirits. He shared his enthusiasm, his knowledge and his love of horses with me, and so many others. He supported me with excellent advice and offered help when I was struggling. He celebrated my oh-so-minor equine accomplishments with Denny and Ruby, and really understood how much they meant to me. I could always feel that from Lantz -- he shared joy in an authentic way, like no one else I've ever known, and he was always so encouraging and so helpful. I have attached a photo of Lantz training Ruby in 2017. RIP, my friend with much love from me and Ruby. You are so missed by so many.

Deepest condolences to Deb and family, to Gary & Val, Clayton and Julie::
Though it may be hard to understand or believe at this time, a life well lived such as Lantz' not only leaves a lasting imprint on the people who have been blessed to have known Lantz but radiates beyond this circle and reaches out and touches those on the periphery and continues outward.
Think of the days when you skimmed rocks across the waters or tossed them into the lake - a seeming unending ripple effect took place and in awe and wonder, as a child, you marvelled at this seeming phenomenon.
Lantz' life is very much like that skimming rock as countless lives were touched by him and whether or not the recipient of Lantz' love and friendship knew it, they were better people for having known Lantz and as they went out into the world, they too affected those around them and on the circle went.
With Lantz' passing, the bright light that was Lantz on this earth is gone - gone from this world to shine more brightly and beautifully in that place of untold and unknown adventures where he can ride free and uncaring on a most beautiful, gleaming and spirited horse where free of all earthly bindings, together they race over countless miles of green hills, meadows and valleys as they revel and embrace this newfound freedom and glory that cannot be conveyed to those of us left behind.
And though Lantz' bright light has left this earth, the embers that glow in the heart of those touched by him well never burn out for he is still with each of you always and forever; for what has been touched cannot be untouched and love and friendship knows no boundaries - not even mortality can diminish love and friendship.
So, dear ones, hold close and cherish the embers entrusted to you that you may warm your ocer-burdened and saddened heart and cherish the memories made and look forward to the day you will be reunited with Lantz and oh, the places he will be able to show you as you are once again reunited.
Blessings and prayers for each of you at this time of heartache and sorrow.
Sincerely,
Paul and Theresa (Sue) Lonergan

The Hetherington family send their condolences to the family,, my late wife boarded her horses with him for a while and had some lessons. He always made people feel relaxed in his presence. He would comment we are laid back here and try to keep the drama down to a minimum lol. He could see what was wrong with a horse or rider in a few minutes of observation, he had a real gift. He was too young to be leaving this world. There will be future horses that will never experience his training touch. Eternity is a long time try not to get to saddle sore Lantz.

Many years later I contacted him to start my young stallion Junior. 3 months ago by and Lantz worked his magic. I can't thank him enough. His wit and direct ways of communication were so refreshing. Made us laugh many times. He has been taken from us all way too soon ... (((Hugs))) to his family and friends... We all will miss this Lantz. After reading the many poignant testimonials about how Lantz impacted the lives of so many, it is abundantly clear that it is not the material things that we acquire in a lifetime but the lives we touch that measure success in life. In that case, Lantz was rich beyond measure. His unwavering drive to encourage and help others coupled by his wise and insightful knowledge and analysis of both equine and human psychology made him a skilled and accomplished teacher both in and outside the horse arena. And, while Lantz undoubtedly had a propensity for talking and never missed an opportunity to share his witty thoughts on absolutely anything, he was an equally gifted listener who became a fast friend. I am grateful to have known him and will forever remember the lessons he imparted.
To his beloved family, know that though horses were his passion, that you were his greatest love of all.

Our deepest condolences to the McLaren clan who lost an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and brother. For the rest of us, a dear and selfless friend has passed on, and much too soon.
I will forever miss Lantz's character--how warm and welcoming he was, his humour, his passion for psychology of both human and horse, and his confidence-building way of teaching. He was a man who encouraged and took pride in seeing others succeed in both riding and life. He was well-respected professionally by his clients, loved by his friends, and adored by the many kiddos who took lessons (or bugged him incessantly for tractor rides) at the barn. We lost a heart of gold, and one of the last real cowboys. May you rest in peace, Lantz, and thank you for everything.

First, I would like to express my deepest heart-felt condolences to Lantz's family. All of us who had the privilege of meeting Lantz know how special he was to mankind.
Lantz was probably the best horseman I ever met in my life. He taught me a lot about horses when I worked on Elllard and Marilyn Bandy's Thoroughbred breeding farm as a young teenager. I had the opportunity to visit with him over 5 years ago at a farm near my hometown of Peterborough where I understand he judged many horse shows.
Lantz always had an interesting story to share. He was a gentle giant in my book. Lantz was kind hearted, good looking, intelligent, and possessed a great sense of humour. I'm glad that Lantz spent his life working with horses and people because that is what he loved to do.
Deb, I only met you once in Peterbourgh when you and Lantz started dating. I remember Lantz telling me when he met you at Sir Sanford that he met a beautiful woman that he was crazy about.
Gone too soon and I hope all of your hearts can heal in time.

I have known Lantz a long time, and recently reconnected with him. He had the ability to quickly connect with people and he created a community that felt like family. He was always willing to help and guide others with his wisdom. I always enjoyed sharing stories with him about Gary and Boyd and the laughter that followed. Lantz will be dearly missed by so many. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family he was very proud of.

I met Lantz almost a year ago when I brought my lightly backed 4 year old Clyde cross to him for training. Not only did he train my mare but he coached me at the same time to ride her with confidence! Lantz had the most amazing ability to push me forward in a way that I always felt safe and supported. We shared a lot of great stories, moments, laughs and progress of my skills as well as my horse. I will be forever grateful for knowing him and I will use the skills he gave me for the rest of my time. I was most impressed with Lantz’s pride in his family, job and farm! My only regret is not knowing him longer. My deepest sympathies to Deb and the entire McLaren family. I joined Lantz’s barn as a client and will be leaving as a friend. Rest in peace Lantz, you truly were the real deal Cowboy and I will cherish my experience under your guidance forever!

My heart goes out to Lantz's family on the unexpected and heartbreaking death of a fine son and husband. It's so many years since Lantz showed my colt, but the many pictures of his accomplishments that are on social media have filled in those years. Gary and Valerie, you raised a fine son.

That time I was broken and afraid… and you took the time that should have been your break at a clinic to have me walk circles around you with my crazy horse, chatting with me… building me back up.
You became my hero
That time I was frustrated and you told me I could win that ever elusive buckle if I just got out of my head - and I ended up with the buckle at the Renfrew Fair… That buckle has always meant so much to me, but tonight I hold it just a little closer.
My most heartfelt condolences to your family Lantz. I thought of you as amazing, I know I had only scratched the surface and they are suffering an immense loss
“Ride Brave Cowboy!” See you again some day

Lantz was foremost a father, husband, son and more recently pa! He was also an incredible teacher, sharer of stories and had a knack for bringing people together! He was kind, truthful and always had the back of those who were lucky enough to call him friend. We are still reeling from this news so I cannot fathom how the family is feeling. We are here and all the love we have for Lantz is being sent to you all. You are in our thoughts Deb, Josh, Tyler, Gary and Val and the rest of the McLaren clan ❤️

His caring and compassion , laughter and compassion will be missed. I still remember the antics at 4-H and with Rick as we were growing up. Right on the breeze up in heaven Lant.

Lantz was one of those guys you could call up when you were in a pinch to help, always had advice to share and genuinely loved talking about and riding horses. We often had gab sessions about horses in general, about showing or horse behaviour. He had the courage to get on green horse, and had a good way with starting colts. I will miss our visits and our conversations. I hope the pastures are green and horses are slick and you ride the good ones. God speed Lantz, "happy trails to you , until we meet again".
Deepest condolences to Deb, Tyler, Josh, Gary, Val and all their families
