I went to school with Rick and always considered him so respectful. I remember he was a dj at some point and went for drinks then the A&W on Portage Ave. He seemed like a gentle soul , the little bit I knew him.
We connected via FB many many years later and only 2 summers ago I was sending him YouTube yoga exercises for sciatic pain . I knew he had kids as he saw through pictures I was helping my partner raise his 4 Grandsons.
I very seldom scroll on FB so it was only by chance that I saw his profile changed on my friend list and I was in shock to know he is gone , it's so quick and trajic , my heart and condolences go out to his family and I wish there was something I could do .
I am so sorry his kids will grow without their Dad ; please use all of your Dad to give you strength and guidance... I also remember how in love he was with his wife as he posted on FB . ..much too young ... Rip.

Condolences to Mark, Rhonda and families. Condolences to Bill. I first met Rick at a social, he and Frank were playing in a northern Manitoba village. I put in a request and then later that night, Rick had worked up the courage to ask me for a slow dance. As we danced, he gently pulled me in and whispered, “You have the most beautiful blue eyes, I have ever seen.” To which I replied, “They are green.” And the rest is history. RIP Rick.

On behalf of the congregation of Bethel-St. Andrew's United Church in Fitzroy Harbour, I would like to offer our sincere condolences to family and friends. Recently, Rick began to attend our church and he was such a welcome addition. When we heard of his accident, we were shocked and saddened and really felt badly that our new friend was gone at such a young age. His service to our country will always be appreciated and we continue to say prayers for God's healing presence during this difficult time.

Rick worked for me in 435 Sqn up until I left in 2008. He was smart, kind and well liked by subordinates, peers and supervisors.
Many years later, while at my desk in 455 Gatineau eating a doughnut , I hear a familiar voice, asking " is this what you do all day?" There was Rick looking just as he did years before except a few rank higher. Turned out he worked right below me on the 8 floor. We would have work chats, social chats and share fond memories.
When Rick decided to pull the pin he asked for advice from me as I had done it back in 2011. The only real advice was do it for yourself nobody else and enjoy life.
We would continue to see each other in the building and when a position for a public servant Avionics tech in the Herc world came up I was asked if I knew anyone with the skills for the job, and without hesitation Rick's name came up and he got the job.
After all those years we were working together again, on Hercs.
We had breakfast a couple of Thursdays ago now it is bot going to be the same without him.
When I tell you Rick was a super guy, I mean it without exception. I will miss him, and I believe the collective world will miss him. His family should be honoured to have had the time they did with him and my sympathies go out to you for losing him so soon.

I crossed paths with Rick a few times throughout our careers. As a young Maintenance Officer, he quickly earned my respect as a top-notch technician and airman, and as someone that could always be relied upon for sound advice no matter the situation. That impression only grew with each opportunity I had to work with him. It is truly sad to hear of his passing, he will be fondly remembered. Sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

I met Rick while serving in Ottawa supporting the CF18 fleet. Rick was a Warrant Officer (WO) and then my Master Warrant Officer (MWO) counterpart on the Tutor side of the house. A consummate professional he was a no nonsense Snr NCO dedicated to getting the job done, but his laugh and sense of humour was also infectious. A true credit to the high standards demanded by the RCAF of its Snr NCO's. RIP Airman, we have the watch. Please express my sincere condolences to his family.

My sincerest condolences to the Family. Was greatly saddened to hear of Rick's passing. I had the honour of serving with him in uniform at NDHQ over the last 7yrs, he with the Tutor aircraft fleet at the start, and then later he was over at aircraft maintenace support equipment fleet, and then finally together with me at CC130H Hercules aircraft fleet; this last after he had retired from the RCAF. I must say that although no longer in uniform, it was easy to forget that part, due his constant example of dedication and professionalism. I knew instinctively that I could go to him with an issue and get a thoughtful and genuine answer in response. Not to forget his sense of humour! I shall miss him very much and hard to believe this has happened. Very respectfully, Frederick Sherrington.

I too had the pleasure of serving with Rick on the Snowbirds. Rick and I flew together for the entire 2002 show season and in that time we became very good friends. Sadly, as we both moved on and life stayed busy for both of us, we didn't connect as often as I would have liked, but when we did catch up again, it was always great! We shared a lot of laughs and good times together. His great nature and attitude toward life will be missed by many (myself included).

I grew up with Rick and I must say, I have never seen him stand still for too long.
One of many fond memories of Rick, happened one night after one of his DJ gigs, he brought the party back to his place (parent's were out of town) and had his DJ speakers outside the garage so we could listen to the music. One of the neighbors across the street called the police on him for a "loud" party. I believe they came back 3 times and each time they said we were within the correct noise levels.
So after the third time the police said that they will not return, Rick rolled the speakers to the end of the driveway turned the speakers towards the street and cranked the music and just stood there and waved to the neighbors across the street! Mad respect for him.
You will be missed!

It was with shock that I heard of the passing of Rick. I've only know Rick for a few years through the Legion as the Sgt at Arms. He ensured that all Veteran's who had passed were "Remembered" through Legion Services. It was a pleasure to have worked with him. To Rick's extended family please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of a great Comrade. God Bless

Rick and go back to our employment at KFC in the early 80’s. Great memories of the many things we did together and times we shared. Strawberries on Pembina, KFC parties, visits to his grandmas to see her beautiful cats , dinners at the Notre Dame house and in the later years, socials, anytime chats and lunches at the Bridge restaurant before moving to Ottawa. Our God talks were always so special and they will always remain with me.
Rick was such a special person and I’m grateful that he chose to share a part of his life with me. My sincere condolences to all of Rick’s family and friends who share pain in this loss. He will never be forgotten. Until we meet again.
