Obituary of Jean Stevenson
(nee Glenn)
With heavy hearts, the family announces that Jean Audrey Stevenson of Arnprior went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday evening, August 23, 2023.
She was 93.
Beloved wife of the late George Stevenson (November 26, 1991). Much loved and devoted mother of Doug, Glenn (Cheryl), James (Cathy), Scott and Audrey (Guy Foisy).
Cherished “Gramma Jean” to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, predeceased by a grandson, Chris Edwards. The last surviving child of the late Wesley and Vivian (nee Beattie) Glenn, Jean was also predeceased by her brothers: Donald (Doris), Ken (Barbara), Bill (late Evelyn) and George (Evelyn) as well as her only sister and best friend, Doris Cotnam (late Woodrow).
Jean is also survived by her stepmother, Anne Glenn Sr. as well as her stepbrother, John Glenn (Ann).
Born in Claybank and raised on a farm in Pine Grove, Jean attended the nearby Pine Grove School and then on to Arnprior High School.
Her first job was at Kenwood Mills where she made life-long friends. When Jean married George, she moved to the farm in Braeside, raising her five children.
Many nieces and nephews called the farm home for the summer months. Special memories were created as they enjoyed many farm activities.
Her interests included china painting, crocheting, and knitting. Jean grew a garden and made preserves and was known for her homemade buns and pineapple carrot muffins.
One of her favorite expressions was “It’s just a simple farm meal.” She believed in the longevity of marriage saying “When you love someone, it’s not a burden to care for them” as she cared for her husband during his illness.
This was a tribute to her strong faith in God that carried her through her life’s journey.
She was involved in her church, teaching Sunday School and Youth Group, as well as speaking for Christian Women’s Club.
After George passed, she left the family farm to enjoy retirement in town.
Trips to Vancouver, Calgary and Florida were some of her fond memories visiting family.
Over the years, her family continued to grow. She was always happy when someone stopped by for a chat and a cup of tea.
She will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
The family appreciates the excellent care she received while at New Orchard Lodge in Ottawa.
Final arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the
Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior
where visitation was held on Friday morning, September 1st from 9 to 10:45 a.m.
A Funeral Service took place in the Pilon Family Chapel at 11 o’clock followed by a reception at Pilon’s.
Jean will then be laid to rest alongside her beloved George at the Arnprior Albert Street Cemetery.
