(Retired Teacher – ADHS)
With sadness, the family announces that Wayne passed away peacefully at Fairview Manor in Almonte while surrounded by loved ones
on Thursday afternoon, September 7, 2023.
Bevet Wayne Oattes of Arnprior was 84 years of age.
Wayne was predeceased by his beloved wife Grace (nee Ready). Dearly loved Dad of Steven Oattes (Susan) of Perth and Kelly Brennan (Joe) of Arnprior. Much loved and proud Poppa/Grandpa of his 4 grandchildren: Krista (Jordan), Chad (Justine), Trevor (Sarah) and Matt as well as his 3 great-grandchildren: Maverick Bevet, Emery Grace and Lucas. Dear brother of Helen Pettigrew (Murray) of Cobden. Predeceased by his 2 brothers, John Oattes (Mary of Sudbury) and Bart Oattes (Gail of North Bay). Lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends and acquaintances.
Wayne was born in Cobden to the late Arnold and Doreen Oattes He grew up on the family farm on the Queen’s Line. After completing High School, he went on to study at Queen’s University in Kingston later graduating with a Degree in Education. His desire to return to the Ottawa Valley to teach was met with having to make a decision between Pembroke and Arnprior. Bill Sly who was principle at ADHS at the time was able to convince Wayne to join the staff there where he would spend the next 34 years as teacher, coach, mentor and friend to thousands of students. His dedication and respect for the ADHS Redmen Football Team will never be forgotten as it lead to many victories and defeats over his career as coach. Retirement was always filled with time spent with Grace and the family; projects around the house and a part time job with RONA in Arnprior. He has left a space that can never be filled. He will be missed.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Arnprior Villa as well as Fairview Manor in Almonte for the special care shown to Wayne over the past couple years.
