Uncle George was near and dear to my heart, as a wee lad our family had many cherished visits with George, Shirley Dawn and the kids. I learned to ride on the tractor by hanging beside George perched next to him on the left fender as he made his way through the barnyard. We eagerly checked for eggs in the hen house, wearing a glove on the hand that would lift the egg gently from underneath the hen not wanting to get pecked at. I remember it was dark there. We played hide and seek in the corn field behind his home, sneaking a few bites of the fresh corn, although I believe it was pig corn, tasted starchy. There are many more memories all good......., oh and I remember him buying us ice cream after church in Pakenham. George was kind, honest, generous, loyal and funny. Like many people have said about George, not many men were built like him.

Our sincere condolences to Shirley, Wilfred, Lisa and Gennnene on the loss of your best friend George. Sincere condolences to all the Colton family on the loss of George. He was a wonderful neighbor and loved his tractor and box blade to clean away the snow in the winter and level the gravel in the laneway in the summer. Thank you George for your friendship and care.

Alas, a great Irish Prince's eyes have closed their last, but his memory will remain with me for years to come.
I am one of only a couple of the remaining Braeside Colton's, who has kept in contact with who we called the Panmure Road Colton's. George and his brother Jim were my contacts for the past almost 50 odd years into a great family, who along with their mother Mary, schooled me on the history of our common Colton family ancestors that came out of Ireland in the early 1800's and settled not far from the family farm property.
George, as many know was a kind chap, with a wry sense of humour, but overall he was a great man in a time when there are very few around any longer who could hold a match to the light he put on the value of hard work.
He had many skills, who helped numerous others in their time of need for work to keep their lives together, and never asked for anything in return.
Alas, I will not be home or in Canada later this week for George's service, so with this I pass on my sincere sympathies to Shirley, the family and extended Colton family.
Take care of yourselves,
Brian

Condolences to your family on this loss. I first met George and family as a youngster. My youngest memory of George is that he was a “giant” of a man to a small kid like me. After meeting his daughter again decades later, well she carries a lot of her dad in her, a force to be reckoned with. (JJ)

So much to say about Uncle George. What a warm, loving, caring, wonderful man. A humble man. Not one for material things, well, except for old tractors!
They don’t make them like him anymore.
One of the hardest working men I ever met. Taught young, on the farm, by his father Wilfred, mother Mary and older siblings.
He put in many long, hard days on the farm, and at the many jobs he had over the years, from helping enlarge the St Lawrence Seaway in the 1950 and 60s, to his years at James Landscaping. Hot, heavy, backbreaking labour. Often, at the end of the workday he returned home to put in even more hours on the farm. George was always there.
Loved nature and all her creatures, as evidenced by the many dogs, cats, cows, and donkeys on his and Shirley’s farm.
Always had a kind word and gave of his time to visit “the old folks” at various nursing homes.
The thing I treasure most about Uncle George was his sense of humour.
I remember how he would make my grandmother Mary, his mother, laugh. Even on some of her saddest days.
A lot of people are going to miss you Uncle George. I know I will❤️
You’ve probably got Grandma laughing up there already.
