Obituary of Gaston Moreau
With profound sadness, we advise the passing of our dear Gaston at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital, Monday evening, November 6, 2023 at the age of 77. Forever loved and remembered by his wife Barbara Eades; son Jamie; daughter-in-law Monique; sisters: Estelle (late Edgar Moreau), Diane (late Jean Chenier), and brother Fernand (Annette Carriere) as well as many nieces and nephews. Also mourning his loss are Barbara’s brothers: Leslie Eades (Jen), John Eades (Patricia), Hugh Eades (Sharon) and sister-in-law, Shelley Eades (late Phil).
Gaston was born in Temiscaming, Quebec on July 31, 1946. His birth parents were the late Anthime Moreau and the late Julia Laferriere. He is predeceased by his step-mom Irene St. Louis, sisters Therese Moreau, Annette Mathurin, Germaine (late Gerard St. Georges), Claire (late Colin McNamara) and brothers Roland (late Lise Lacroix) and Edouard (Jean McKay).
Gaston started his career with the Bank of Montreal in Temiscaming, later transferring to the Royal Bank and retiring from there. His retirement took him in a completely different direction; that of a cabinetmaker. He handcrafted everything from toys to duplicating antique benches. He volunteered for Hospice Calgary, the Arnprior Legion, Seniors Active Living Centre, sang at senior’s homes in Calgary and Arnprior, and coached minor hockey, but his favourite hobby was his HO Scale Train Layout and Garden Railroad.
The Moreau family extends very sincere thank you to Gaston’s medical team lead by Dr. Cremer in Arnprior and Drs. Lavallee, Ong and Tiberi at the Irving Greenberg Cancer Centre in Ottawa. Special and loving thanks to Greg Beck, Lola McNamara, Terry McNamara, Steve Williams and Rick Leben for their participation in Gaston’s upcoming service.
Gaston’s care and arrangements have been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior where visitation took place on Sunday, November 19th from 11am to 12:45pm. A Tribute to honour Gaston took place in the Pilon Family Chapel Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock.
The service was webcast live for those unable to attend.
Celebration of music and the life of Gaston Moreau followed at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 174, Arnprior. Private Family Interment took place in the Spring at the Malloch Road Cemetery, Arnprior.
In lieu of flowers, donation to Gaston’s chosen charities would be most appreciated: Royal Canadian Legion Branch 174, Senior’s Active Living Centre (through Arnprior Regional Health Foundation) or the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.
