Obituary of Alan "Al" Davis

With heavy hearts, the family announces that Alan passed away rather unexpectedly and peacefully at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute on Sunday, December 10, 2023.

 

Alan was born March 4, 1950 in Toronto, ON to (predeceased) Molly (nee Ford) and John Davis. Deeply loved and will be missed by his wife of 37 years, Patti (nee Nethery) and daughter Amber Davis (Kevin Walsh). Remembered by his son Sean Davis (Denise Masters). Dear brother of Kathy Barron (late Brian). Brother-in-law to Ray Chandler (Angela) and the late Wayne Nethery. An uncle to many nieces and nephews.

 

Alan grew up in Toronto, Ontario. A graduate of Downsview High School. He excelled in many sports - basketball, soccer, rugby, track, volleyball .  A memorable time was the 1969-70 season, Alan led the Downsview Mustangs to become the North York Basketball champs that year.

 

He worked at International Cycling and Sports in Toronto in his teens/early adulthood, he loved racing on velodromes and went on to enjoy mountain biking later on in life.

 

Alan took in the vibrant music scene of Toronto from youth to young adulthood and that love of music would stay with him for the rest of his life.

 

Al moved to North Bay in 1975 where he became a member of the OPP. Throughout his career he was a part of the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) team, Emergency Response Team (ERT), the North Bay Drug Unit and then finishing his career in North East Regional Headquarters In-service training.

 

While in North Bay  he reffed soccer for many years. He loved the outdoors, photography and gardening, had a bit of a green thumb.

  Al was part of the Scale Modellers club. He was a meticulous builder of model airplanes and well respected and admired within the community.

 

 

Al and Patti chose to spend their retired years in Renfrew. They enjoyed small town living and spent their summers cruising up and down the Ottawa River.

 

Al’s dogs meant the world to him and were his constant companions. He will be missed by his beloved dogs Hank, Stella and Charlie.

 

 A celebration of Life will be held in the spring in North Bay, ON.

 

 

Al’s private arrangements have been entrusted to the

Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior.
