Obituary of June Krueger
(Nee Hambly)
October 1, 1928 - April 20, 2024
June grew up in Strathroy, Ontario, and went to Normal School (Teacher’s College) in London, Ontario. There she met Nola, who had a date but no car.
Nola’s brother Ralph had a car but no date so she introduced him to June. Soon after, Ralph proposed, June said yes, and they were happily married for over 50 years.
They taught together at a two-room country school. Later, she typed his PhD thesis. After a stint at Wayne State University in Detroit, they settled in Kitchener-Waterloo. While Ralph taught at university, June did speech therapy with intellectually disabled kids and wrote a booklet about her techniques. They retired to the Beaver Valley near Thornbury, Georgian Bay, where they pursued their shared passions for downhill skiing, gardening, and nature. She became a skilled weaver with an interest in natural dyes and home-spun yarn.
After Ralph died in 1999, she cultivated close friendships from her many interests, which included book clubs, lectures, and the arts just to mention a few. She enjoyed her Beaver Valley neighbours.
She spent her final year-and-a-half in the special care of the wonderful staff at Orchard View, Almonte.
Predeceased by her close brother Bill Hambly, she is survived by her daughters Karen Krueger of Fitzroy Harbour and Colleen Martin (Ron) of Owen Sound, granddaughter Kate Martin, her sister-in-law Nola Simmons (Hugh), and many beloved nieces and nephews. She valued her relationships with her deceased sisters-in-law Ilene Hambly, Ruth Smith, Shirley Holden (Em).
June's private care and arrangements have been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior.
