It may seem like small comfort at this time, but at least we can be grateful we had him on this earth for all the years that we did. We can take some comfort in the fact that Mackie is passing on a wonderful, flaming torch that we should all reach up to grab, namely that torch of hard work, grit, determination, goodness and decency and goodwill toward everyone he met. Joanne and family...please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of Mackie. I knew him through the Valley Heritage Radio family, and he bought knowledge and a great feeling of confidence in his ability to cut through the chaff and sensibly solve any problem. Plus, he had a great sense of humor, and was funny as heck! We often spoke by phone to discuss radio issues, and I always respected his opinion, even when we agreed to disagree. My first real job after College was at the West Carleton Municipal Office and Mackie was my boss. Lloyd Stewart, Sylvia Grant, Gordon Mulligan, Leonard Lesway and now Mackie are gone. Way too young and such a good man. He will leave a large hole. My condolences to Joanne and family.
